Where do you get your sugarcane for Moonshine
I used 00 % unsluphered molasses and whole sugar cane from the heath food shop and market
(I live in the uk)
Distilled 3 times? Are you not using a thumper I see 80abv regularly with the help of a thumper, got a pic?
No thumper and a stove top still. I wanted to try moonshining before I invested any real money. This was my first ever run. If you look up novice in the dictionary, You will see my picture.
Looks good though man, keep it up!, ?
thanks man, tastes good too ?
Most of us started with a pressure cooker too but most will pry not to admit it though lol
Gotta start somewhere and with the price of copper, I’d rather start around the £00 mark ?
Looks god what still you running I run a Chinese still normal single run of corn whiskey I get 75% I’m also in the uk
I’m guessing mine is the same as yours, if you mean country of manufacturer. I’m trying corn whisky atm ?
just that lol
not a bad little still had mine nearly 2 months love it
It does what it says on the tin! I’m enjoying learning, things can only get better ?
It’s all down to experimenting ?
I was always under the assumption that storing alcohol in plastic was a bad idea. Does it not taint the flavour?
no mate not that ive noticed
Did you use anything for yeast nutrient? I am also very novice. I used 5 pounds of white sugar and a half a gallon of molasses with raisins for yeast nutrient in my first run. Came out 24abv. I wonder if the nutrient made the difference?
Hi. Recipe interpreted from a few sources. Although most forums that i looked at seemed to be formed in America, No one seemed to to use units of measurements in their posts, even though not all members were from America. UK and USA gallons are very different….i converted and averaged similar recipes. I used 3 kilos of molasses, 6lbs of demerara sugar cane, 4.5 (uk)gallons of spring water and 21g of bread yeast. Whole, organic Vanilla pods added to some of the finished product
Hello All, can I please get an all grain scotch recipe? Novice! ?
Have you gone to homedistillerorg?
You have to earn the answers
row malted barley
That is a difficult one for a novice What Eric said above
There’s a lot of websites that will sell you kits
Well easiest for a novice is to buy essences And start a sugar wash Distill the wash with reflux or thumper
No idea but I did see a recipe that was 95% smoked or peated barley ?
Hi Daniel I just distilled an all barley scotch batch It was very low yield, but it turned out very smooth and distinctive tasting I used a recipe 60% 6 row malted barley to 40% peated Would you the exact water, amount of barley, water temp, etc ?
It’s called scotch because it’s made in Scotland But it’s made of malted barely 2-3 pounds of crushed grains per gallon of water I pour the water in around 160-165 degrees and let the mash sit until the temp drops to around 100 degrees drain the wasSee more
Looking to do a rum run what do you guys have for a recipe thanks in advance
How big of fermentation vessel do you use
I’ve got a 30 gallon container
30 gallon I would use 8kg of blackstrap
10kg of sugar
Add 1/3 boiling water mix well
Slow simmer 2 cups of raisins Smash them
Up a bit in the pot Dump them in
1kg rolled oats on top Don’t mix
Let cool
Divide your yeast in to 2 portions
Hydrate 1/2 let it work, dump it in
Sprinkle the other half on top
I just use regular bread yeast
Make sure you got a good airlock If you get it right she will fly for 7 days Don’t over fill your container Make the house smell warm molasses cookies
What temp do you guys target for fermentation?
I don’t know the exact temperature I just use an old heating pad on low
1 gallon molasses 2lb sugar 3 tbsp bread yeast, for 5 gallon batch
Can i ask you wath kind of molasses you use, i come from Denmark(litle shitty country) and the only thing i can find caled molasses, is somthing for horses?
That’s backstrap molasses, and will work fine
I know you can use brown sugar if molasses is expensive Not sure on the recipe details
Molasses is a lot cheaper than brown sugar
don’t use feed molasses it actually have a lot of sulphur in it
i dont now if its feed molasses, is says something about for the stomach of the horse, it contain a bit of yeast?
Oh ok If it don’t show it in the content Should be ok
can i use syrup?
Molasses syrup? Sure that’s what I thought we were talking about that’s what I use
In Denmark its to difrent things, molasses for horses and syrup for making bred and baking, as far as i can seebut the molasses for horses dont seem to have sulpher in it, but i dont know
Sorry don’t know either and I know even less about looking after a horse
Send me some Denmark beer and I will send you molasses
If it comes in a bucket and looks brown gooey muck it’ll be fine, it comes out of the sugar mill that before it gets refined and should be around the same price as sugar kilo for kilo
No automatic alt text available
you want beer from Belgium, tasty stuf, not boring Danish beer
Thanks for trying to help me
its sticky and brown, dont want it on my clothes?
you’ll have ants in your pants in no time?
I use blackstrap but, I add a oats I find It’s makes the rum smoother I also boil raisins for my nutrient
How mutch oats for 5gallon mash?
2 cups I just use regular rolled you would use for cooked cereal
I have some videos running molasses on Duck Mountain Distillery fb page
I use 10 litres molasses dissolved and fill to 40 litres with water, add a turbo yeast and let er go, makes about 4 litres at 75 percent
Is this a acceptable dry molasses ?

Alright, I need some help trouble shooting here
My runs take a long time, way longer than they should 10+ hours to not even finish 5 gallons of liquid
There is plenty of power, I have two elements, 7 gallon boiler, 45 minutes to bring up to temperature, then cut back to a single element at ~60% power
I can get a steady drip, but it’s small drops Cranking up the power and running it hard, I am getting 1/2 pint in 30+ minutes
My current suspect is my liebig condenser, I bought it pre-made online, and the water jacket is only 13″ long (1″ diameter) Column is 2″ diameter, 18″ tall
How many watts are your elements do you have a controller just so you know I have a 7 gallon copper pot with a thumper and lineberg it took almost 8 hours for me to do a spirit run
So if that’s to long for you it’s possible this hobby is not for you good liquors can’t be rushed
2 2000 watt elements, controller on one 8 hours is about what I would expect, 10-12 hours to get ~1/2 way through on a spirits run is what I have been getting
Well I run a stainless steel ulwd 4500 watt element but when you run that element on 110 volts it becomes a 1500 watt element I run one element not two it’s plenty of power and unless you condenser is not doing it’s job then there will be steam along with the drip

I also drop in 2 green apple slices For looks doesn’t really affect the flavor lol
The cider recipe i tried was good Just cloudy looked real mixed thanks for the pointers
Aee your others jolly rancher mixes
Yea cider is foggy but no one around here it that way told me to go back to the no cider lol now it’s all we drink it’s that good lol
They are 35 hard jolly ranchers for a quart melt in a little water in a pan then add the good stuff in a jar it’s delicious to lol
Nice ill have to try that canycane worked real well and kept that gas flavor i
Lol yea I usually have 180 proof so I put half a quart hat of it then add the melted jolly ranchers fill rest with water to get around 90 proof
How do you get an accurate proof once you have added the jolly ranchers in?
use calculator on a distilling page
180 is high i can pull 140 to 145ive used corn and barley And i have just done sugar and rasins
Yea same as me I use sweet fees sometimes to I have a reflux is why I get 180
Damn reflux
I use it to make neutrals for mixing then it will do pot still also
