The United States started taxing liquors and spirits shortly after the American Revolution. This was the birth of the American Moonshiner who worked his still at night under the cover of darkness to avoid detection from the law man. While distilling itself is not an exclusively American tradition, we will take full credit for the tradition of moonshining in the mountains, foothills and creek sides from sea to shining sea.
